A Quick Guide To California DRE Processing Times

People who work in real estate are familiar with the California Department of Real Estate or what’s commonly known as CaliBRE or DRE.

Since its establishment in 1917, DRE exists to safeguard and promote the public interest. It does this by regulating real estate practices in California and ensuring timely services.

If you are dealing with DRE, it will be beneficial to know the processing times for transactions like real estate license applications or a subdivision public report.

This post will serve as a quick guide to DRE approval process timeframes in 2022:

Processing Timeframe for Real Estate License Application

Once you’ve decided to get a California real estate license, you need to ensure that you meet the DRE’s requirements for a real estate agent or broker license.

This might feel like an endless feat but if you focus on studying and passing the real estate licensing exam, you’ll feel as if time just flies by.

3 to 7 Weeks for Real Estate Courses

The first step you need toward becoming a licensed real estate agent is to take real estate courses. There are several DRE-approved colleges where you can take courses to fulfill the requirement for the license.

Know that the DRE does not permit students to complete a course in less than 2.5 weeks. You can study and complete the required courses in seven weeks or so.

6 Weeks or Longer for Exam Application Processing

Once you have completed the real estate course, you can start submitting your real estate exam application. Don’t rush the process, though, and ensure that you have all the documentation you need for the application.

For instance, you need to submit college transcripts for the courses you took, certificates, complete fingerprint scans, and more. After submitting your application, you can check the status by checking whether the application fee appears on your bank or credit card statement or not.

It is recommended that you submit an application for both the Combination Exam and License at the same time. Yes, you will have to pay the fees for both, but you won’t have to submit a license application after the exam’s completion.

One Week or More for the Real Estate Exam

Once the application is approved, your exam will be scheduled for a week or longer after the application approval date.

On the day of the exam, you’ll have three hours and 15 minutes to finish the exam. Upon completion, the exam score will be tallied and given to you. You need to get at least 70% to pass the exam and finally be a licensed real estate agent in California. If you fail, you can try to take the exam again within two years of your application submission date.

DRE Timeframes for Subdivision Types

Here are some general estimates of the processing times for public reports:

  • Standard subdivision reports – approximately 60 days
  • Common interest subdivision reports – approximately 115 days

Conclusion

If you want to be in the real estate industry in California, then it’s important that you are familiar with the processing times for the most important transactions with the California Department of Real Estate. Hopefully, this post has shed some light on the timeframes you can expect when you do California DRE approval processes, be it for the approval of your real estate agent license or you need a public report.
